Read about the leadership teams behind VCE Summer Tutoring.
Lucas Spaleta — President
Lucas graduated from a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics and Management) and a Diploma in Languages (Ancient Greek) at the University of Melbourne in 2023.
He has 6 years of experience in the Education industry working with families, tertiary institutions, charitable organisations and leadership academies to implement initiatives that improve student performance and educational outcomes. He currently works in Professional Services delivering large-scale organisational change, learning and leadership development programs as a People Consultant.
Lucas is passionate about social impact and supporting young people. He leverages his skills in strategic leadership, executive management and coaching to create growth opportunities like VCE Summer Tutoring for young people from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds.
Lucas is an avid pianist and organist, reader, runner and theatre-goer, and proud owner of a labradoodle and 100,000 bees.
Joel Duggan — Vice-President
Joel is a journalist and University of Melbourne student with governance experience across media, education and student-led not-for-profits. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Politics and Creative Writing in 2023 and is currently completing an honours thesis researching the normative commitments of Australian social welfare policy.
Coming from a background in student unionism, Joel has sat ex officio on the board of a multi-million dollar organisation, managed large-scale volunteer bases spanning up to 300 students, and supervised curriculum development and academic program delivery for Victoria's longest-running summer school.
Joel is a founding member of the Committee and has supported the delivery of all three VCE Summer Tutoring programs. He is passionate about leadership that's underpinned by an ethos of democratic participation and generosity of spirit.
In his free time, Joel enjoys a local pub gig where he can have a good mosh, spending way too much money on vinyl records, and expanding the range of vegan meals in his repertoire.
Andrew Leap — Secretary
Andrew completed his Bachelor of Commerce and Global Studies and is currently working towards his Masters of Teaching. He has substantial experience applying skills in program management, policy research, compliance, regulation, and stakeholder engagement in secondary and tertiary education, across government, education consultancy, and the public school system.
At university, he was an active volunteer, improving academic governance and the student experience, supporting university students from diverse backgrounds, and mentoring VCE students who were the first in their families to attend university.
Andrew’s previous experience as a student, tutor, and Operations Coordinator, as well as his strong passion for access and equity in education, led him to join the VCE Summer Tutoring Committee, helping to break down educational barriers and make education more accessible to all students.
Andrew also coordinates the VCE Summer Tutoring tutor social netball team, enjoys travelling, particularly in regional Victoria, and scouts for good café, restaurant, and patisserie recommendations!
Cam Bloye — General Committee
Cam is an experienced community-sector leader driven by a strong commitment to social justice and to creating systemic change to address structural barriers for people experiencing disadvantage and marginalisation.
Cam started his career as a community lawyer, and currently works in a senior management role in a community legal centre. Cam has a Bachelor of Arts, a Juris Doctor (post-graduate law degree).
Harrison Abbott — General Committee
Harrison is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne, majoring in English Literature and History with a concurrent Diploma of Languages in French.
After attending VCE Summer Tutoring as a student in 2024, Harrison returned to the program as a Volunteer Academic Tutor and Teaching Support Officer in 2025 before joining the Committee.
As a Gamilaroi man, Harrison is passionate about diversity and inclusivity within education, fighting against educational disadvantage.
In his free time, he reads, writes and catches up on sleep.
Henry Pan — General Committee
Henry is a current medical student at the University of Melbourne. Through working as a mathematics tutor and volunteering in educational programs such as the Student Welfare Outreach Team and VCE Summer Tutoring, he has discovered a passion for teaching, mentoring, and inspiring young people, especially those who would not otherwise have access to such resources.
Beyond his background working with young people, he has experience working as an Operations Officer as part of VCE Summer Tutoring and is currently acting as the People and Culture Lead of another nonprofit and charity organisation.
Outside of work and study, he enjoys both playing and listening to music, weightlifting, and exploring new neighbourhoods.
Nina Zepcan — General Committee
Nina Zepcan is a first-generation Bosnian-Australian migrant living and working in Naarm (Melbourne). She recently obtained her Bachelor of Arts (Anthropology and Applied Linguistics) and Diploma in Languages (Italian) at The University of Melbourne in 2024.
Nina joined the VCE Summer Tutoring mission in 2024 after having worked similar roles in VCE support education. She volunteers because it allows her to see sustainability in a tangible way, for example when the student she tutored, moves on to tutor someone else. This is the real ripple effect of continuity that started with VCE Summer Tutoring and continues to build meaningful pathways in her broader community and within the lives of people she engages with.
She currently works for the University of Melbourne as a Research Assistant for the Critical Ethnography Lab (CiEL). When not nerding-out on AI-lit reviews, she finds herself thrifting, knitting and playing social netball.
